In September, OPS Member Dean Sidelinger, MD, MSEd, FAAP, became the State Health Officer and State Epidemiologist for Oregon. Prior to this position, Dr. Sidelinger was the deputy health officer at the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, and San Diego’s child health officer. He is a recipient of the AAP Child Health Advocate Award.
Dr. Sidelinger says that “his education and training in pediatrics and public health will help him take a broad view of health and incorporate the influences of family, community, and the broader region on health.”
Since beginning as Oregon’s state health officer, he has been a key public health spokesperson during the outbreak of vaping-related illnesses. His comments have been featured by multiple news outlets, including Oregon Public Broadcasting.
