Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) are court orders designed to temporarily keep firearms away from people who are at a high risk of hurting themselves or others. Since September is Suicide Prevention Month, we’d like to highlight this video from Ceasefire Oregon that explains the ERPO process and why it is an effective lifesaving tool.
Video production credit goes specifically to Ceasefire Oregon’s Penelope Spurr, who is also a Lake Oswego high school student. In April, Penelope gave an advocacy update on gun violence prevention at Oregon Pediatric Society’s Annual CME Conference. Following the conference, she spent several months researching ERPOs,  collecting data, writing a script, and filming this video.
