This week, we are shining our Board Member spotlight on Alann Braun, MD, FAAP, Associate Professor of General Pediatrics at OHSU Doernbecher General Pediatric Clinic. Dr. Braun brings a passion for environmental health, immunizations, and equity to her work with kids and families across Oregon, and to her role on the OPS Board. Get to know her below!

 

Question: If you played professional baseball, what would be your walk-out song (title and artist, if possible)?

Answer: How You Like Me Now, The Heavy

 

Question: What do you love about being a part of OPS?

Answer: I love meeting pediatricians and community partners from all over the state to work together for kids!

 

Question: What book are you reading right now?

Answer: I just started Tartufo, by Kira Jane Buxton

 

Question: If you weren’t doing your current profession, what would you do? 

Answer: Realistically, probably something in environmental chemistry… but I often fantasize about being a park/forest ranger 

 

Question: What are your hopes and dreams for OPS in the future?

Answer: I’d love to see us building stronger relationships with our state policymakers, so that we can help make sure that children’s health is protected by our government! 

 

Question: What’s your favorite children’s book?

Answer: The Witches by Roald Dahl

 

Question: What children’s issue are you really passionate about?

Answer: Environmental health, immunizations, equity, immigrant & refugee health…

 

Question: What’s your favorite children’s movie?

Answer: I can’t choose one! My favorites are Up (which makes me cry every time) and Wall-E

 

Question: What was your favorite subject in school? Why?

Answer: Chemistry – I had amazing teachers/professors in high school and college who made it fun (I know that’s hard for many to imagine, but I swear it’s true!) 

 

Question: What are your hobbies?

Answer: Hiking and camping, gardening, and knitting

 

Question: What is your favorite part about your job?

Answer: I love teaching residents and medical students in our pediatric clinic, and seeing my patients grow up and change over time. 

 

Question: What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Answer: Believe it or not, an actress!

 

Question: What was your favorite afterschool snack?

Answer:  Apples with peanut butter! Or just peanut butter by the spoonful.
