As schools and offices are closed to promote social distancing, many parents are juggling remote work and childcare.  OPS Member Ben Hoffman, MD, was quoted in a recent New York Times article about an expected surge of pediatric home injuries during COVID-19.

“You can’t work and provide adequate supervision, especially for younger kids — so something’s got to give,” Dr. Hoffman told the Times in a March 26th article.

He said he is most concerned about window falls, furniture tip-overs, and ingestions.

OHSU’s Tom Sargent Safety Center can get window stops and guards to interested clinics.

Dr. Hoffman is a professor of pediatrics at OHSU and chair of the AAAP Council on Injury, Violence and Poison Prevention. He is also the medical director at Tom Sargent Safety Center.
