Next up we have Andrea Bateman, MD, FAAP, Pediatrician at Mosaic Community Health. Dr. Bateman is a pediatrician passionate about firearm safety and advocating for youth in the juvenile justice system. She brings a unique blend of clinical care, community connection, and legislative ambition to her work with OPS. Read on to get to know more about Dr. Bateman.
Question: If you played professional baseball, what would be your walk-out song (title and artist, if possible)?
Answer: I’m not a Woman I’m a God by Halsey
Question: What do you love about being a part of OPS?
Answer: Connecting with other pediatricians throughout the state as a community to advance children’s health.
Question: What book are you reading right now?
Answer: At the Hour Between Dog and Wolf, by Tara Ison
Question: If you weren’t doing your current profession, what would you do?
Answer: I’m fascinated by logistics of how airports and supply chains work so something around that.
Question: What are your hopes and dreams for OPS in the future?
Answer: To expand our membership and to have a stronger presence at the legislative sessions.
Question: What’s your favorite children’s book?
Answer: Alice in Wonderland
Question: What children’s issue are you really passionate about?
Answer: Firearm safety and youth in the juvenile justice system.
Question: What’s your favorite children’s movie?
Answer: Guardians of the Galaxy and the first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies, having kids spoiled all movies for little kids for me as I watched them so. many. times!
Question: What was your favorite subject in school? Why?
Answer: History! I still love it and I was a history major in college.
Question: What are your hobbies?
Answer: I love mountain biking, cross country skiing and photography. Also hanging out with my family and dogs.
Question: What is your favorite part about your job?
Answer: I love my teenage boys in OYA custody… “yo, bro no cap I’m gonna lock in bro” ! They make me laugh and I feel I can really make a difference for them.
Question: What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Answer: Paleontologist
Question: What was your favorite afterschool snack?
Answer: Kraft Mac and cheese or Chef Boyardee ravioli
